TURNING GREEN
April 15th, 2007

It seems that everyone likes spring flowers. This includes those wonderful daffodils or hyacinths in people’s yards, as well as the spring beauties and trilliums in the woods. And even the cold weather of last week can’t prevent us from enjoying these little reminders of spring.
What appeals to me even more than flowers, however, is the greening of the small trees along the side of roads. Have you noticed the new leaves coming out as each bush and tree starts to get ready for another season of growth?
Each new leaf is fresh, unwrinkled, not torn, and ready to do its work of catching sun and oxygen for the plant. As the season goes on, these leaves will start to show wear and eventually look tired and old. For now, however, they are full of promise and a new beginning.
It won’t be long and most of the trees around us will bear new leaves. Entire wooded areas will exhibit various shades and hues of green. This is an exciting time of year; all around us is entering a new season.
We need to continue our own growth, ready to face each new day.
