THIS IS THE TIME
April 27th, 2008

Everyone gets excited about the return of robins and other summer birds…so do I. Most people like the early flowers near houses and in the woods…so do I. And I especially like the smell of the first cutting of the grass. But with all these great signs of spring, there is something else I look forward to even more. That is the opening up of leaves on the branches of the trees.
At this time of year most trees start to show green. The tiny leaves look fresh, moist, unseasoned, and ready for wear. In only a matter of months, they likely will be torn, worn, and tired-looking. But for now, they are ready to do their job of bringing sun and life to the plants.
I am sure I enjoy looking at these leaves because soon the entire country-side will be green after a long season of dullness. But even more, I like the courage and tenacity of the new leaves. There’s something fresh about their approach to life.
For me, the trees are giving us a message to begin again, try once more, and return to new vitality. This is important for everyone but especially for those who have had discouraging days or set-backs in their personal relationships, professional goals, health, or faith journey.
It’s an exciting time to think of possibilities.
